WorkSmart
is a
methodology in which those closest to and impacted by an important
business, customer or organizational issue are brought together to
develop solutions in an accelerated decision-making process.
As Work-Out did for GE, WorkSmart creates a foundation for
business transformation by:
- instilling
continuous process improvement as
“how we think” and building simplicity into
activities and processes
- identifying
non-value added work and removing it
- reducing
“silo” behaviors and promoting cross-functional
teamwork
- increasing
speed in
decision-making & implementation
- driving
accountability
- empowering
employees to think creatively and develop new solutions
Regardless
of the
adaptation (bureaucracy busting, process improvement, one-day, two-day,
single team, multiple teams, etc.), all WorkSmart sessions share
a number of common and distinguishing features/characteristics:
- Topics
are selected based on importance, urgency and
“fit”.
- Topics
are always
linked to a Sponsor and Champion who understand and are committed to
his/her role.
- A
premium is placed
on up-front scoping and planning.
- The
design of the
workshop is carefully linked to the scope and nature of the
problem/issue. Workshops are
led
by trained facilitators*.
- The
right people
are invited to participate and the session only proceeds when these
people are able to attend
(team members and decision panel).
- Solutions
are
turned into concrete, specific, detailed recommendations which include
action plans and an acceptance
strategy.
- Decision-making
takes place within
the session, in open forum. The session does not end until a
decision
has been made, by key decision makers, on every recommendation.
- The
group
developing recommendations is the same group responsible for their
implementation.
- Improvements
are
implemented in 45-60 days.
*Destra’s role is to
introduce the methodology and teach it
to
our clients. Our goal is to transfer and develop
clients’ internal facilitation capacity, not build
dependence.
The cost of most WorkSmart initiatives is recouped within a few
months; ROI of 300-400% are typically achieved within the first 18
months. In subsequent years, ROI is even greater, since
consulting costs decrease as more internal capability is developed.
