Destra has developed a unique systems approach to Process Improvement
that is founded on our deep understanding of what it takes to create
sustainable change. It includes a training system supported by expert
consulting, as well as an equally rigorous emphasis on building
Acceptance of Six Sigma and resultant projects as a productive way of
life by the people in the organization.
Destra’s systemic approach includes:
- Articulating
the business case for
Six Sigma
- Integration
of Six Sigma with
strategic objectives
- Design
of implementation strategy
and plan, including
- Pre-launch
preparation
- Development
of the organizational
acceptance strategy
- Development
of a dynamic
communication plan
- Launch
of training
- Capturing
bottom-line value
- Sharing
knowledge, lessons learned
and best practices
- Transitioning
skills to internal
staff members who will support the effort once Destra has exited
A more detailed description of Destra’s
approach to both the
implementation and acceptance strategies follows:
What
is Six Sigma?
Six Sigma is a rigorous, data-driven, yet flexible, method of
understanding and satisfying customer requirements, and increasing
productivity. Six Sigma, as a statistical measurement, means operating
with only 3.4 defects in a million opportunities for the defect to
occur. The Six Sigma methodology puts a specific focus on quality,
process speed, defect reduction and customer requirements.
At Destra, we draw on our extensive experience with Six Sigma, a core
set of Lean and other tools to customize just the right toolset to
meetour client's needs. The Destra difference is that we deliver the
right set of
tools for you in an integrated fashion. A brief description of some of
the major tools that can be used in Six Sigma centered deployments
follows.
DMAIC—a Six Sigma roadmap: In the language of Six Sigma,
DMAIC
stands for Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control—a
disciplined, systematic set of methodologies and tools that enable
processes to be designed and improved to meet customer expectations.
DMAIC is also a solid project management tool.
Within the DMAIC framework, Destra offers world class training,
coaching and consulting:
- Introduction
to Six Sigma via an
experiential case study
- Senior
Executive Alignment
- Team
Member Training
- Finance
Advisor Training
- Champions

- Black

- Green

- Team

- Accreditation for Green, Black
and Master Black Belts
- Consulting
and design for all phases
Lean—a
methodology for creating a smooth flow of value-creating, waste-free
activities. Lean tools can be woven nicely into a DMAIC framework and
integrating these two approaches creates a unique “speed and
quality” focus based on customer requirements.
Process
& Product
Design
(DMADV)—Define, Measure, Analyze, Define, Validate
(or Verify) --- a methodology and toolset used to design a new process,
product or redesign a fundamentally non-competitive process to satisfy
customer requirements.
QFD
(Quality
Function Deployment)—an approach that links the
needs of the customer (the end user) with the design, development ,
engineering and service functions. It helps organizations seek out both
spoken and unspoken needs, translate them into action and designs, and
focus various business functions toward achievement of a common
goal. QFD empowers organizations to exceed normal expectations and
creates a level of unanticipated excitement that generates value.
QFD is:
- Understanding
customer requirements
using a Comprehensive Quality System for Customer Satisfaction
- Quality
Systems Thinking +
Psychology + Knowledge
- Maximizing
positive quality that
adds value
- A
strategy to stay ahead of the
competition
WorkSmart—(Destra’s
adaptation of GE’s
Work-Out™) - a process in which those closest to and
impacted by an
important business, customer or organizational issue come together in
an accelerated decision making environment.
Building
the Capacity to
Create Sustainable Process Improvement
Like all organizational initiatives, process improvement initiatives
are successful when people in the organization believe they are
beneficial and are committed to making them work.
That’s
why Destra’s approach to process improvement, including Six
Sigma, includes a strong emphasis on building and implementing a
dynamic Change
Acceptance strategy.
Our comprehensive approach to change management includes two key
offerings:
Accelerating Change and Transitions
(ACT) provides leaders, change agents and project
teams with a disciplined approach for developing an “A”
side strategy. These practical, yet powerful, tools help to dramatically
improve a project team's ability to achieve results through accelerating
implementation of and commitment to project outcomes.
What differentiates Destra's model from many other change acceptance
models is the comprehensive tools set that assists individuals
or teams to confidently approach and manage change. Having a common
language and toolkit can be a powerful asset when agility and
speed of change are desirable competencies for your organization.
Facilitation Skills for Leaders
(FSL)™ -- gives project leaders, change agents
and team members the knowledge and skills to help a team perform
at its best. Organizations today depend on teams to identify the
ways to impact both the top and bottom lines. It makes sense for
all teams to learn how to gather, organize, analyze and ultimately
make critical business decisions. Another business critical competency
for teams is the ability to understand and manage the human dynamics
within the team. FSL™ teaches
people in leadership roles how to more effectively use time and
resources by engaging the organization's human talent and creativity.
In
summary, Destra’s
unique blend of both quality technical solutions and rigorous
acceptance strategies creates a high powered approach to creating
Sustainable Process Improvement outcomes. Destra has
extensive
experience in deploying these approaches and tools in small, mid-size
and large companies. (Read
