Many business-critical change efforts fail to meet the high
expectations set for them. More often than not, the cause
lies in a failure to understand and adequately attend to the
cultural, political and social issues involved—these
are the human elements of change.
At Destra, we believe the strategy for change acceptance must
be as rigorous as the strategy for technical, operational
or financial change being considered. (Read about the Change Effectiveness Equation)
We rely on our Accelerating Change & Transitions (ACT)
model to provide a best practice framework for generating
acceptance and commitment.

Accelerating Change & Transitions
(ACT) Model |
©2005 Destra Consulting Group, LLC®
This model underscores the fact that change is a dynamic
journey moving from current state to desired results. Building
Coalitions and Commitment are at the core of successful change
efforts. It results in engaging supporters and resistors
to build a critical mass of people who support the change and
will help implement the solution.
There are six additional critical components that build
the coalitions and commitment required to keep the transitions
and learning “wheel” moving:
Leading the Way: Leaders
articulate why an initiative is business-critical, and understand
behaviors they must model.
Creating Shared Urgency:
Key stakeholders understand the need for immediate action and
willingly advocate for the change.
Focusing a Vision: Everyone
in the organization knows what success looks like and can articulate
it in terms of key results, impact to the customer and changes
in behavior.
Aligning Systems and Structures:
Pulling organizational levers to encourage behaviors consistent
with the desired change. Levers include communications,
organizational design, measures and rewards, training, hiring,
etc.
Sustaining Momentum:
People are motivated to sustain the effort required to bring
about and maintain the desired results.
Charting a Transition Roadmap:
The project plan includes emphasis and measurement of the A,
(acceptance) not just the Q, (technical solution) to ensure
commitment throughout the lifecycle of the initiative.
The Accelerating Change & Transitions (ACT) model
is built on leading change and organizational transformation
research, particularly the works of John Kotter and William
Bridges, combined with decades of organizational experience.
What differentiates Destra's model from many other change acceptance
models is a comprehensive set of tools that assist individuals
or teams to confidently approach and manage change. Having a
common language and toolkit can be a powerful asset when agility
and speed of change are desirable competencies for your organization.
All consulting and training
solutions from Destra are designed and delivered to build the
commitment of all people involved. This accelerates execution,
delivery and sustainability of business results.
